Prevalence Of Malaria And Intestinal Parasitic Co-Infection Among Diabetic Patients In Calabar.

Background: Malaria and intestinal parasitosis is a public health problem among diabetic patients, therefore, this work evaluates the prevalence of parasitic infection malaria co-infections in diabetics.
 Materials Methods
 Capillary blood fecal samples were collected from 190 patients at outpatient clinic University Calabar Teaching Hospital Navy Reference another batch capillary 110 non-diabetic subjects. The stool examined macroscopically microscopically by direct smear formol- ether concentration method also stained modified Ziehl- Neelsen acid fast stain. thick thin film with 10% Giemsa stain viewed microscopically.
 Result: Amongst test subjects, parasites had rate 30 (15.8%), 48 (25.3%), co-infection 8 (4.2%), difference was statistically significant (p= 0.036). 12 (10.9%), prevalent (10.9%) (3.6%). subjects aged 21-30 years highest 14 (70.0%) for while 31-40 (57.1%) p = 0.0001. age group 4(28.6%) 6(42.9%), 41-50 rates 2(14.3%) co-infection. male higher parasites, 20(33.3%), 26(43.3%) 6(10.0%) respectively which 0.001). For females 8(13.3%), males 8(16.0%) 4(8.0%) respectively, not (p=0.250). Hookworm most observed parasite, 18(37.5%), Ascaris lumbricoides, (29.2%), Cryptosporidium parvum, (16.7%), Cyclospora cayetanensis, 4 (8.3%), Trichuris trichiura, 2 (4.2%) Microsporidia, (4.2%).
 Conclusion: Based on findings study, has shown (15.8%) subjects; study illustrate co- 4.2%, need to put place strategies control parasite patients.
